Everything is God - An Introduction to NonDual Judaism
An Evening Lecture with Jay Michaelson
The Open Center, 83 Spring Street
Tuesday, April 1, 8–10pm
$20
The principle of non-duality—that everything is One—is familiar to spiritual seekers from a variety of mystical paths. Kabbalah, Judaism's mystical and esoteric tradition, also expresses this idea, in uniquely provocative and sometimes startling ways. This evening we'll combine text study (from sources as diverse as Maimonides' Guide to the Perplexed, the Zohar, and the Baal Shem Tov), contemplation and discussion to explore key Jewish teachings on nonduality. We will also offer comparative insights and explore how non-duality is actually lived—so please bring your own knowledge and experience (from any tradition) to add to the conversation, and be prepared for surprise: enlightenment is not what you think... and neither is God.
Jay Michaelson has taught Kabbalah and spirituality for over 15 years at institutions ranging from Yale University to Elat Chayyim. He is a visiting professor at Boston University Law School and the author of God in Your Body: Kabbalah, Mindfulness and Embodied Spiritual Practice and the soon-to-be-published Non-dual Judaism.

Saturday Morning Chanting
Second Saturday of the month
April 12, May 10
10:30 am-12:30 pm
Do you long to stay with a line of prayer longer, to explore its edges and
contours and effect on your being? Do you long to go deeper into the amidah,
to sit in the silence that is your personal date with God? If so (and even if
not!), join us for a morning of chanting and meditation. Chanting is a
devotional practice to open the heart and awaken our inner wisdom. When we
allow a chant to lead us into the silence that follows, we have an
opportunity to listen for the voice of the divine within us. Romemu member Jen
Goldstein is a student of Rabbi Shefa Gold, and will draw on Shefa's
repertoire of chants for a communal journey aligned to the parsha, the
calendar, and the moment.
Out of respect for your time, we will end by 12:30pm. Out of respect for
everyone else's time, we strongly ask that you arrive no later than 10:30
(the space will be open starting at 10). This will allow us to create sacred
space together, without interruption.
Location: 9th Street and 6th Ave. in Manhattan. Email
jen@romemu.org for
specific location and details or for questions about chanting.
